In Session
Therapy
begins with us getting to know each other. I'll ask questions about you, your current situation, past, and future goals. From
here, I become a guide, helping you explore your inner world. In a gentle way, I nudge you to go to your
edge - the spot that is just a few steps from where you are now and makes you feel a bit uncomfortable. This edge is
an important place because your personal growth is here. It can be a frightening and exhilerating place to be. All along,
I will be there, responding to you with respect, nudging you when it seems necessary, holding and reflecting back your fears,
joys, strengths, and stumbles. In the end, it is my hope you have discovered more skill, wisdom, and compassion for you and
your role in the world outside of the therapy space.
Are
you considering services for a child? The process is similar to an adult, but the methods are different. Children
do not have the cognitive skills or words to describe how they feel. Therefore, they 'talk' through their play and art.
Within the safety of the space, and with appropriate guidance, their play takes on highly personal themes. I become an active
guide, allowing these themes to emerge and be worked through. If you were to bring your child in to therapy, I require that
I touch base with each parent on a regular basis. Exploring what is happening for you is a critical part of your child's therapy.
